ILPS condemns the murder of MST’s Marcinho

Marcinho’s murder outside of his home in the Chapada Diamantina region, at the age of 34, in front of his son, and through three gunshot wounds in his head, is most revolting. It is the latest addition to the growing list of peasant leaders and activists in Brazil, many belonging to the progressive MST, who are being murdered for fighting for land, life and justice for the landless.

The Rohingyas have long faced systematic military repression under the social-fascist (socialist in words, fascist in deeds) dictatorship of Ne Win (1962-88) and again after the 1988 uprising with repeated military crackdowns in 1991–1992, 2012, 2015 and 2016–2017. Over the past 50 years, Burma’s military rulers have enabled state and large corporations to take over land and water supplies in what used to territory of the ancient Kingdom of Arakan before it was incorporated into Burma under British colonial rule.

ILPS condemns attack on Afrin by Turkey, expresses firm support to Kurdish people in struggle for national self-determination

The ILPS supports the Kurdish people’s struggle for national self-determination and their aspiration for a democratic self-administration in Rojava-Northern Syria. Even under the conditions of civil war, the people of Rojava successfully held a referendum in which they overwhelmingly expressed their desire to establish a Democratic Federalism of Northern Syria within a unified federal Syria with equal rights among the different ethnic groups in Rojava-Northern Syria: Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Assyrians, Armenians, Turkmen, Circassians, and Chechens.

It called on “the Palestinian masses and their organizations to unite their efforts and respond collectively, practically and forcefully to this decision through action and escalation of the momentum of the popular movement.” The Palestinian people clamor for a new intifada.
